Garlic Bread

Spaghetti and lasagna are two meals that feel incomplete without a side of garlic bread.  It is simple to make and so delicious.  So, when planning Blake’s lasagna dinner I automatically added it to the menu.  You can prepare it ahead of time and it only takes 10 minutes to bake.  Which means that by the time the lasagna has cooled enough to be sliced and served, your garlic bread is ready to come out of the oven.  This is a classic recipe with just butter, garlic and parsley but the method can be used with any type of herb butter you can think up.  I’m thinking a combination of butter with rosemary and lemon juice would be delicious.  What are your favorite herb-butter combos?

Toasted Garlic Bread

Ingredients

1 16-oz. loaf bread (I used Ciabatta)
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
2 large cloves of garlic, smashed and minced*
1 heaping tablespoon of freshly chopped parsley

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cut the bread in half lengthwise.  Mix the butter, garlic and parsley together in a small bowl with a fork.  Using a spatula, spread the butter mixture over each half of the bread.  Place bread on baking sheet and heat in oven for 10 minutes.

Remove from oven.  Let cool for a minute or two.  Using a bread knife, cut into 1-inch slices.  Serve Immediately.
